Chiropractic treatments can go a long way toward relieving your pain and solving other chronic health issues. But as with any other type of medical care, the patient is equally responsible for making the most of their treatments. The following three steps will help to ensure that you get the best possible results from your chiropractic care.

Choose your chiropractor carefully. Remember to view your chiropractor as a partner in your treatment. Choose someone with whom you feel comfortable, who specializes in your particular needs, and who comes highly recommended by someone you know (when possible).

Follow your treatment plan. In-office adjustments will most likely form a cornerstone of your treatment plan, but you must follow through with all out-of-office instructions, too. Implement all posture corrections suggested by your chiropractor, apply ice or heat as directed, and remember to drink plenty of water.

Hydration might seem like an afterthought, but staying adequately hydrated protects joints and helps nutrients travel through your body. It also allows waste to leave.

Rebuild strength slowly but steadily. If you needed a chiropractor’s assistance due to an injury, it’s normal to hope for a quick return to your old lifestyle. But you do need to wait until pain subsides and follow all of your chiropractor’s directions regarding exercise. Expect to gradually regain strength and flexibility over a few weeks, or longer if you lost significant time due to an injury.

Ask questions. And of course, remember that communication is a two-way street. We don’t know what you don’t know, until you ask! Write down your questions and bring them to your next appointment, so that we can fully discuss your treatment and recovery.
