We hear a lot about “inflammation” these days, and while inflammation can be caused by a number of factors and result in many different outcomes, we do know one thing: It quite often results in pain.

Inflammation is essentially the body’s response to trauma. Sometimes that trauma is caused by a substance that does not belong in the body, and sometimes it is caused by an injury. Inflammation is your body’s way of responding to an infection or injury and attempting to heal it.

Unfortunately, that healing process can be uncomfortable, and sometimes your immune system can get stuck in the “on” position. This means inflammation becomes chronic as your body continually responds to threats, and you need help getting out of that cycle.

As we mentioned, inflammation can be the result of many different types of trauma to the body. But we often find that pain in the lower to mid back is the result of inflammation from micro tears or strains in the lumbar region, from events such as

  • Heavy lifting
  • Poor posture
  • Impact (such as a car accident)
  • Repetitive motion
  • Stress
  • Sleep difficulties

How do you know you might be suffering from inflammation? Along with chronic pain, you might notice redness, swelling, or heat in the impacted area. Over time you might also experience loss of function.

If you experience inflammation, either from an injury or some other event, seek chiropractic care right away. By alleviating pressure on the nerves and inducing an inflammation reduction response, we can help you reduce pain and heal more quickly. Most patients are relieved to know that they won’t need to seek powerful, potentially addictive pain medications, or face the choice of suffering discomfort in the long run.

If you suspect inflammation due to pain and the other symptoms listed above, give us a call. We will schedule a consultation to discuss your injury and potential paths to recover.
