Up to half of expecting women will experience back pain at some point during their pregnancies, particularly in the lower back. As the baby grows larger and heavier, the pregnancy will place more pressure on the lumbar spine. Often discs and joints in the area can become compressed, leading to inflammation and pain.
Since pregnant women are advised to avoid all unnecessary medications, due to the possible risk of harm to the baby, pain medications are usually not advised in treating back pain. This rule even applies to over-the-counter options like Advil or Tylenol. So, what is an expectant mother to do about her lower back pain?
Luckily, she doesn’t have to simply grin and bear it. Chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy are very safe for both mom and baby, and provide an effective way to deal with back pain. We can use chiropractic treatments to reduce compression and strain on the lower back, and help the mother-to-be enjoy her pregnancy.
I even gave my own wife chiropractic adjustments throughout both of her pregnancies. Give us a call and I can offer the same level of care and expertise to you.
